Chana masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas,
tomatoes, onions, and a blend of aromatic spices. It is usually served with
rice or naan bread.
Here is a simple recipe for chana masala:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups chickpeas (cooked or canned)
- 2 large tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp amchur powder (dried mango powder)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Cilantro leaves, chopped for garnishing
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the cumin and coriander seeds, and fry until they start to splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies, and sauté for another minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add the turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and amchur powder, and mix well.
- Add the chickpeas and mix well. If using canned chickpeas, drain and rinse them before adding.
- Add salt to taste and mix well.
- Add 1 cup of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the gravy thickens.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot with rice or naan bread.
Note:
You can adjust the spice level according to your taste
preferences. If you like it spicier, you can add more chili powder or green
chilies.
